Dr. Shelley O’Neill’s career reflects an extraordinary blend of intellectual rigor, curiosity, and clinical mastery. Originally from South Carolina, she earned her bachelor’s degree in Biological Sciences from Clemson University (Go Tigers!) and her medical degree from the Medical University of South Carolina in Charleston. She moved to California in 1999 to begin her Family Practice residency at UC Davis/Sutter, where her leadership as chief resident and clinical excellence fueled a passion for comprehensive family care. She went on to complete advanced fellowship training in high-risk surgical obstetrics in Spokane, Washington—a level of expertise achieved by few family physicians.
Her versatility as a physician is remarkable: she has practiced across the full spectrum of Family Medicine in settings as diverse as rural Alaska, inner-city Denver, and academic teaching hospitals—each experience refining her adaptability, diagnostic insight, and compassion for patients from all walks of life.
When personal health challenges with Lyme disease arose, Dr. O’Neill once again demonstrated her hallmark curiosity and determination. She immersed herself in studying healing systems beyond conventional medicine, earning certifications in Eden Energy Medicine, Reiki, and Western Clinical Herbalism, and completing a four-year training in Classical Homeopathy at the Northwestern Academy of Homeopathy in Minneapolis—the oldest homeopathic school in the U.S.
In 2023, Dr. O’Neill discovered Functional Medicine and recognized it as the ideal bridge between her scientific training and her holistic sensibilities. Continuing her lifelong pursuit of mastery, she is completing certification through the Institute for Functional Medicine and brings to True Health a uniquely integrative approach—uniting advanced clinical skill with an artful understanding of the body’s innate capacity for healing.
